How to Prepare
We’re preparedness aficionados! All Western Overland Adventures require participants to be self-sufficient in terms of food, water, fuel, camping equipment, and vehicle preparations. You can find detailed information on how to prepare with our Vehicle Gear Requirement and Camping Requirement lists. This tour is rated a 2 on our trail difficulty scale. In order to register, your vehicle must meet the minimum requirements for this difficulty rating.
On the Central Mountains Trek, you will have approximately 200 miles between locations with food and fuel availability (depending on reroutes) over mostly maintained, dirt and gravel roads with occasional rough, unmaintained two track. Additionally, much of the area that we will be in has little or no cell phone coverage.
Weather is a factor that no one can control, so plan for the unexpected. Late September in this part of Utah is cool to warm during the day, but temperatures can drop significantly at night. Fall rain or snow storms are not uncommon at this time and this can alter the trail and camp conditions; please plan accordingly.
